Have you seen the movie Clash of the Titans? Clash of the Titans shows a lot of the Greek mythology you're learning now, even though the writers did change a few things (see Ray's quote below also). One of the best parts of the movie is Medusa! Medusa, as you know, is one of the greek gorgon monsters with the hair of snakes. If you look at her you turn to stone. A great special effects artist named Ray Harryhausen created, along with the other creatures like Dioskilos the two-headed dog and pegasus, the Medusa you see in the movie. Listen to her rattle. Watch the movements he gave her. Look at the light of the fires. When you watch Perseus in Medusa's chamber you'll understand why so many people think it's some of the best fantasy ever pulled off in a movie.Update: We may have a DVD copy of the PG rated Clash of the Titans available for check-out (watch it at home) and part of a reward...more info as we get it!
"Every legend has to be modified, I feel. You can't just take the story as it is, because they're rather fragmented...I had to tie things together and bring the best of greek mythology to the screen." ~Ray Harryhausen on creating Clash of the Titans
A real nice Ray Harryhausen site called The 7th Voyage.
At the Lincoln City Libraries you'll find many books on greek mythology. One we found is called "Graphic Mythology: Greek Myths" by Rob Shone. The number is j292 Sho. It looks and reads like a color comic book. Another book is from Anne Rockwell and it's called "The One-Eyed Giant and other Monsters from the Greek Myths". The number is j292 Roc. Great silk screen and hand-colored illustrations.
